Color Contrast Checker
Enter a text color and a background color to see the contrast ratio and whether it meets the WCAG 2.2 thresholds for normal text, large text and interface parts. Everything is calculated in your browser.

The ratio is computed in your browser with the WCAG relative luminance formula and is not rounded before comparison. A pass here covers color contrast only, not WCAG conformance.
The thresholds
| Content | Level AA | Level AAA |
|---|---|---|
| Normal text | 4.5:1 (criterion 1.4.3) | 7:1 (criterion 1.4.6) |
| Large-scale text (about 24px, or about 18.5px bold) | 3:1 | 4.5:1 |
| Interface components and meaningful graphics | 3:1 (criterion 1.4.11) | No separate AAA level |
How the ratio is calculated
Each color is converted to relative luminance: every sRGB channel is divided by 255, then values at or below 0.04045 are divided by 12.92 and higher values are raised with the ((value + 0.055) / 1.055) to the power 2.4 formula. Luminance is 0.2126 times red, plus 0.7152 times green, plus 0.0722 times blue. The ratio is the lighter luminance plus 0.05, divided by the darker luminance plus 0.05. Following the W3C, the checker compares the unrounded ratio with each threshold, and shows it rounded down to two decimals so a near miss never displays as a pass.
What a pass does and does not mean
A pass covers contrast between two colors only. It does not test font size in your product, text over images or gradients, focus indicators in context or any other WCAG criterion. Check colors in every state, including hover, focus, visited and disabled, and read the status colors field note for signals that must not rely on color at all.
